BIFF put her event on hold because of Bayelsa gubernatorial election
Yesterday being the 4th of September 2019, the Festival Executive Director of Bayelsa International Film Festival Mr. Moses Etonzor was invited by the state government to deliberate on the forthcoming international Film Festival in the state and the Gubernatorial election coming up on November 2019. According to Mr. Moses, he has been advised by key government officials, security personnels and stakeholders of BIFF to put the international event on hold.
“This is an international film festival, the first of its kind in Bayelsa State and we want to ensure that it attain the expected standard. After my meeting at government house yesterday where I was advised to postpone the film festival because of the forthcoming election and the instability of the present government in preparation for the election, I consulted the special adviser to the governor on entertainment and culture, Mr. Asu Ekiye, Prof. Saviour Agoro, Columbus Irosanga and other key stakeholders and they all proposed that the event should be postponed till after the gubernatorial election in the state. So after due consideration, I am making this public statement and plead for the understanding of our audience, friends of BIFF and everyone who had planned to be part of this great Film Festival to bear with us and be informed that Bayelsa International Film Festival that was slated to hold on the 2nd to 5th of October, 2019 has been postponed. We shall make a public announcement on the date to host the event. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation” says Mr. Moses.
